Arnolfo Di Cambio

Arnolfo di Cambio was born in 1245 in a village called Colle val d’Elsa. He worked for a few years in Rome, where he carved a lot of sculptures. In 1296 he established in Florence where began to work as sculptor and architect. Initially he worked at the marble facade of Santa Maria del Fiore cathedral ( The Dome ). He carved the statues of “ Madonna in trono “ and “ Madonna della natività “, two wonderful works of art inspired by an elegant and smart classic style. He was also a very inspired architect, and a lot of his designs are very famous. In particular he worked on the architectonic projects of S. Croce cathedral, of the gothic monument called the “Badia” church and of the Old palace ( Palazzo Vecchio ) in signoria’s place. He died in 1302 in Florence.
